What do you get when you cross a fly with jazz, toilets, and humanity’s simmering despair at its own social constructs? Pure Grime, a mind-bending solo comedy show delivered from the perspective of a fly.
Pure Grime challenges audiences to celebrate the grotesque and see the world as if they were a fly on the wall. It seeks to explore what it means to be human, offering a disgustingly delightful jab at us while celebrating all things fly in turn.
“Pure Grime is simply something so different that you must see it,” Sean Burnett Dugdale-Martin of Art Murmurs says.
Written and performed by award-winning theatre-maker Em Barrett from a residency at Barbarian Productions, this solo comedy show is thought-provoking and punchy, immersive and reactive, meticulously constructed and just plain strange. Crafted under mentorship from esteemed clown Thomas LaHood, Barrett’s captivating bouffon performance teeters between perplexing and amazing as she tiptoes the line separating human and fly.
Pungently fresh, Pure Grime will be unloaded into Wellington’s Vogelmorn Bowling Club for one night only on the 5th of July to raise funds for its North Island tour following its sickeningly successful season at the 2024 New Zealand Fringe Festival.
Pure Grime transcends the theatrical by exploring empathy, acceptance, and the human condition in a way that is confronting and horrifying yet wonderfully witty. Prepare for a sting to the psyche at this timeless performance that will leave you buzzing.
