Escape into another world by Harry Bartle
If you’re looking for a more exciting lunchtime experience than a sandwich and apple in the break room, then come along to St Andrew’s on The Terrace at midday on the 14th of September and enjoy Ghost Trio performing as part of the venue’s Lunchtime Concert Series.
The local piano trio comprises Monique Lapins (violin), Ken Ichinose (cello), and Gabriela Glapska (piano). The group formed in 2019 after the three accomplished soloists realised how much they enjoyed playing together.
“We’re just really good friends”, Lapins exclaims. “While we’re serious about the music, we’re actually quite playful as well. There’s something fun about the way we approach the music and that translates consequently on stage.”
At their upcoming performance, the Ghost Trio will delight audiences with Piano Trio by Frenchman Gabriel Fauré, At Water’s Birth by New Zealand composer Eve de Castro-Robinson, and Piano Trio No. 3 by legendary German composer Johannes Brahms. The group wanted to choose works that “Wellington audiences will connect with”, Lapins says, noting they works are “really contrasting, there’s something for everyone.”
She also says St Andrew’s Lunchtime Concerts have become a real treat for classical music fans working in the city.
“It’s really fun. A lot of people take a break from work and come down, eat a bit of food, and enjoy a fantastic concert. It’s a chance to escape into another world for a bit before carrying on with the day!”
