Get roasted by Alessia Belsito-Riera

Something is sizzling in Pōneke… it’s something savoury, spicy, and scrumptious. It’s Raw Meat Monday – Wellington’s longest-running, weekly open-mic comedy show.

Founded in 2008 by hilarious human and Welly icon Jerome Chandrahasen, Raw Meat Monday is a fun mix of comedy gold and comedy coal. Each event’s menu is a guaranteed gamble, but the layout remains constant with a guest MC who turns up the heat between a changing lineup of fresh acts, seasoned pros, and every flavour in between.

The upcoming gigs at The Fringe Bar on the 27th of May and 1st of June see Kipling Davies-Colley and Neil Thornton thrown into the fire as guest MCs.

Kipling [pictured] is the self-christened Captain of Silly and unanimously selected 2020 Raw Quest Wellington semi-finalist. If you’re confused while he’s on stage, don’t worry, he’s pretty bamboozled most of the time himself. Full of nonsense, Kipling’s sets are always a tasty treat.

Comedic heavyweight Neil Thornton will serve up his signature brand of comedy. Fierce and funny, the American-born jokester has performed all over the world and is an accomplished writer, public speaker, and teacher to boot. Neil’s also the founder of The New Zealand Comedy School.

“June is a special month for Raw Meat Monday, celebrating the one-year anniversary of the Cameron Harrison Butchery meat raffle,” Jerome says. “Every Monday, a meat pack and vege pack is up for winning. All proceeds go towards the Humorous Arts Trust, helping support stand-up comedy in the capital.”

Forget Sunday roast, tuck in to Raw Meat Monday!
