Howdy, folks by Alessia Belsito-Riera
A hootenanny? A hoedown? A hullabaloo? Whatever you want to call an event headlined by country music legend and comedian Wilson Dixon, there will be a helluva good at Carterton Events Centre. Friday Laughs will blow into town on the 15th of November with a herd of Aotearoa’s favourite comedians raring and ready to go.
Wilson Dixon is the alter ego of Kiwi comedian Jesse Griffin. Hailing from Cripple Creek, Colorado, Wilson Dixon has captivated audiences across the UK, New Zealand, and Australian comedy circuits with his signature blend of deadpan humour and melodic musings on life. From sold-out seasons at the New Zealand International Comedy Festival to performing his hit show Wilson Dixon’s American Dream to rave reviews at Edinburgh Fringe and Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Wilson Dixon has hogtied awards and rustled up acclaim aplenty, including the prestigious Fred Award for Outstanding Artistic Achievement in 2010.
Courtney Dawson, known for her self-deprecating humour and relatable storytelling, joins the lineup alongside Opeti Vaka, who will deliver hilarious takes on life, whānau, and more from his unique South Auckland and Wellington perspective.
The two-hour comedy showcase will be emceed by Wellington-based writer, comedian, and improviser Lesa MacLeod-Whiting. Known for her vibrant characters, accents, and fast-paced silliness, she is the perfect guide for an evening of laughs.
Saddle up for a yarn down in the heart of Carterton.
