Its own little world by Alessia Belsito-Riera
Blending the boundaries between surf rock, indie pop, westie rock, and more, PARK RD’s sound builds on Aotearoa’s rich musical tradition and iconic indie guitar sound.
Following an impressive list of summer festival gigs that includes the likes of Rhythm & Vines, Le Currents, Soundsplash, SXSW Sydney, and the capital's own Jim Beam Homegrown, and fresh off the back of a massive sold-out Aussie tour alongside indie rockers The Rions, the Tāmaki Makaurau fivesome are hitting the road once more – this time across their home turf to celebrate the release of their debut album The Novel.
Performing to Welly audiences at Meow on the 27th of July, PARK RD says the album “feels like its own little world”. Featuring hit singles Call Me Up, Every Night, and Ride, they say the “main theme of the album is definitely love”.
Throughout the creative process, the band embraced an array of influences and techniques resulting in a collection of songs that are all different from each other but retain the signature PARK RD sound that has skyrocketed them onto the world stage.
“Once we had all the main instruments, we would add ‘the vibes’ and sprinkle little details like synths or guitar parts that only happen once in the song,” they add.
From a couple of friends jamming after school to playing sold-out gigs across the Southern Hemisphere, PARK RD can’t wait to share The Novel with the fans who have joined them on this amazing adventure.
