Rock it, piano men! by Madelaine Empson

Cam & Sam are about to take audiences on a journey through their favourite Elton John and Billy Joel songs.

“Elton and Billy toured a show called Face to Face which first started in 1994 where they would play and sing each other’s songs, share parts and harmonies, and battle it out on the pianos”, the musicians behind the award-winning hit tribute show Elton John vs Billy Joel explain. “With this show we’re paying tribute to these musical legends, with some fun insights and stories as we share our love for these tunes.”

With Sam Hyde’s vocals sitting pretty in Elton John’s range and Cam Crawford filling the soulful shoes of Billy Joel, this show will be music to your ears… and eyes!

“Sam also has a flamboyant nature on stage with wings and sparkles while Cam, like Billy, prefers a well-fitted suit and Ray-Bans!”

Cam & Sam don’t just don sparkles and sunnies; they’ve worn many hats over the years as professional touring musicians. The dynamic duo debuted the wildly successful Elton John vs Billy Joel at the 2022 Eat Drink Play Festival – winning the Best in Play award in the process – and haven’t looked back since. In fact, 2023 saw them travel 7000 kilometres, taking the show and their all-Kiwi crew across the middle of the North Island, down to the tip of the South Island, and over to the magical West Coast. Rest assured, Elton John and Billy Joel’s beloved music is in safe hands!

Cam & Sam both call Wellington home and hope audiences will have a fun and memorable night out singing along to their favourite tunes – think Rocket Man, Piano Man, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, and more – and rediscovering gems they may have forgotten. Head uptown to The Opera House on the 7th of September.
